Building the CD&M

This article is the very rough start to the story of how one man, with the help of his wife, his dog, and a little bitty tractor were able to build (and are still building!) the CD&M. The picture you see above is of our loaded rail buggy. Marie wrote a very good article on how this was built and used on the website: One Yard, Three Foot (dot) net.

This page will be updated throughout the following months to showcase the process of surveying the line, grading the sub-bed, preparing the roadbed, laying the tracks, and ballasting. Interestingly, this all started as an effort to simply have enough (maybe 100 feet!) of track to simply move our Porter compressed-air locomotive back and forth to show people. But it quickly grew into the railroad you see today, much to the delight of friends and family.

We would like to leave you with another photo of the railbuggy. As a point of interest, this second photo is taken of the switch at the bottom of the track (aka, 'the loop'). The buggy is sitting almost exactly where the photographer, Marie, was standing to take the photo shown above. So, in this photo, you're looking down and 'into' the loop. In the above photo, you're looking up and 'into' the start of the Big Fill.
